I decided to do this activity because I had never read the Bible Dictionary on John the Baptist and I have always loved the Bible Dictionary. I did not know that John the Baptist actually baptized at least two of the twelve apostles. I also didn't know that he was baptized as a child and imprisoned for an entire year before he was killed. That is why I love the bible dictionary because I am able to learn so much from it.
In Luke 1:14 Zacharias is told that the birth of his son will bring him joy and gladness. He is also told “many shall rejoice at his birth”.
The birth of a child is always accompanied with joy however, the joy that came with the birth of Zacharias and Elizabeth’s son was far greater for many reasons.
Elizabeth and Zacharias were very excited for the birth of their son. They were old in age and Elizabeth had not been able to have children. I am sure that up until this point in their lives they were certain that they would never have children. What joy filled their lives when John was born.
Mary was also very excited about the birth of John the Baptist because she knew that he would prepare the way for Jesus, her son.
The birth of the prophet John the Baptist was also very exciting for many other people because of the role that they knew he would play in their salvation. John is the prophet that was chosen to prepare the people for the coming of the Savior. He would bring light into the lives of those who had none and he would teach of the Savior and the salvation of the people souls.
